We take a Traditional approach to training

The goals of our club are to teach Self Defence and Fitness whilst also developing the following qualities of Self Respect, Self Discipline and Self Control thus promoting both Physical and Mental Health.

As the students are run through a traditional warm-up and stretching exercise at the start of class, there is not the usual injuries associated with Burnouts (Running back and forth with push ups etc) along with the ability to train till an old age.

With all this in mind Karate is not for promoting Violence, rather the complete development of oneself no matter what fitness level or age.

Access to Tournaments

As you can see our women alone are very accomplished at tournament. We have found that tournament is a great way for students to meet up with other clubs and make new friends.

Various tournaments are held at different dojos over the year and our students are always offered the opportunity to participate if they wish to do so. All events are held in a fair and equal manner and all students return feeling like winners as the tournament environment we enter is one that encourages everyone to join in and have fun without the pressure of “having” to be a winner.

We also support other clubs in our area when they advise us of their upcoming tournaments as well as having a team participate in the JKF Gojukai Australian Nationals in past years.

Fitness and Flexibility

A major part of our training requires our students to be fit and also flexible, to assist the students in building and maintaining their fitness and flexibility Sensei Robert has incorporated a specific class into our training sessions that is designed to enhance the student’s abilities.

Sensei Robert has developed training sessions that help the students develop their flexibility with a range of exercises including floor, chair and wall work, partner stretching and shiko dachi training to increase the students stretches.

He also works on the student’s fitness both mentally and physically with various exercises including running, cone and obstacle training, bag work, Sanchin training and relaxation techniques.

Womens Self Defence

Fushichou St Clair made the choice to present self defence classes specifically for females as we feel there is a great need for women in today’s society to feel comfortable and confident that they can take care of themselves if the need arises.

The class is open to all ages from 14yrs+ and can be a great introduction to martial arts and defence for those ladies that feel self conscious about doing the more formal traditional training of karate.

We have had students that have started with the defence classes and have built up the confidence to step up to doing the karate training as well.

Our Club

Written by Web Master

Our teachings incorporate martial arts as taught traditionally by Grandmaster Chojun Miyagi who inspired Robert Mark Kamen in the creation of his character Mr Miyagi from the original Karate Kid fame so anyone of any age can become a true Karate Kid!

We are a Traditional Goju Ryu club that has been in the St Clair area since 1988.

We use both Japanese and English terminology in every class as well as performing traditional bows to the previous grandmasters of our art. We use the original warm up exercises designed by Chojun Miyagi while training and encourage the students with information sheets to slowly learn the Japanese side to be prepared if they wish to further their studies later in Japan.

Our aim is to develop the students in all areas, not just their abilities as martial artists. We teach them to understand that what belt they wear is not as important as the knowledge and understanding they gain which shapes the person they become. They are taught respect, discipline, focus, control, speed, agility and self confidence.
